New Release Spotlight: 2018 Pinot Noir, Ram's Gate Estate
At Ram’s Gate Winery, we are not necessarily in love with exclamation points, although we have been known to use them when we become overly excited about one (or more) of our releases.
Now! Now would be a great time to use one, because our 2018 Pinot Noir, Ram's Gate Estate has arrived!
What Can I Expect From the 2018 Pinot Noir, Ram’s Gate Estate?
When the inherently finicky Pinot Noir grape responds to nurturing the way ours has, we begin to use adjectives like “breathtaking” to describe its depth and flavor.
Worthy of the moniker, this vintage is layered and compelling, reflecting the dense fruit, lift, and minerality that complex Pinot Noirs are known for.
Our dedicated winemakers and complete Ram’s Gate team took extreme care to divide our Estate Pinot Noir harvest, fermenting the grapes based on vine-age, vigor, soil type, and their prized position on our south-facing slope.
The result is our 2018 Pinot Noir, Ram’s Gate Estate that highlights the attributes of the Carneros winds, as they act as a natural air-conditioner to moderate the temperature of this varietal location and provide an exceptionally long and cool growing season.
Our 2018 Pinot Noir, Ram’s Gate Estate was aged for 16 months, in 34% new French oak that delivers a sharp yet dense, stylish, and mature field blend of Swan & Pommard Clone that deserves patience.
Upon opening, the already complex nose welcomes sippers to a clove, anise, and cigar box wine.
Next, the ripe plum, caramel, and chocolate truffle expand to the palate, carrying a dark, crème de cassis texture and framing structure that rightly suggests its lengthy bottle lifespan.
What Are the Wine Critics Saying About Our 2018 Pinot Noir, Ram’s Gate Estate?
With 95+ points from Jeb Dunnuck, 92 points from James Suckling, and 90 points from Wine Enthusiast, we could not be prouder of our 2018 Pinot Noir, Ram’s Gate Estate.
Virginie Boone, of Wine Enthusiast, says, “This wine is earthy and fresh in tangy, tart strawberry and rhubarb. Thick tannins wrap around and provide structure and breadth without overt weight, allowing the wine to finish in sage and dried herb."
We think you will enjoy it just as much as they (and we) have.
