A Guide to White Wines

Our experienced team of wine professionals at Ram’s Gate Winery believes a good white wine makes for a great day. Whether you are pairing a crisp salad with a Pinot Blanc for lunch or picnicking with friends and a delightful Sauvignon Blanc, white wines are cheery and easy to love.

If you are a strict Chardonnay enthusiast or open to trying new white varietals, Ram's Gate Wine has options that fit all palettes and practices, so you can dive into the warmer months with refrigerated and crowd-pleasing refreshment options.

Here are a few ways to pinpoint your white wine tastes.

Are You Light & Zesty?

Nothing whispers light, fresh, and clean taste like a terrific Pinot Blanc.

Pinot Blanc is the white grape mutation of Pinot Noir, which reflects the latter’s dry finish, but is delightfully infused with peach, pear, lemon zest, and raw almond flavors.

Pinot Blanc ranges in 13.5–15% alcohol by volume, contains no tannins and is of medium acidity, which is perfectly paired with soft cheeses, salads, and flaky fish dishes.

Would You Rather Go Green?

If you prefer to go green, Sauvignon Blanc is a popular white wine rooted in herbal intensity and ranges from lean and light-bodied to bountiful and fruity with flavors like honeydew, grapefruit, and gooseberry combined with the fresh aromas of grass, jalapeño, and bell pepper.

Perfect for the herbivore, the 11.5–13.5% alcohol by volume Sauvignon Blanc pairs perfectly with salads, tangy cheeses, tofu, and green veggies thanks to its dry, medium-light body, and high acidity.

The Bold & Dry Standby.

The intense flavor of Chardonnay is what makes it a white wine lover’s favorite or another enthusiast’s reason to choose ABC (anything but Chardonnay) white wines.

As one of the world’s most popular grapes—and wines—opinions vary as widely as its flavors. Chardonnay scales in style and taste from lean yellow apple and starfruit to rich and creamy pineapple, vanilla, and buttery notes.

Oak-aged Chardonnay accentuates the creamy, buttery flavors and textures that pair nicely with crab cakes, fruit-lined pork tenderloin, or anything with mushrooms.

Unoaked Chardonnay is leaner in taste and provides a crisp, mineral, and delicate finish that pairs perfectly with oysters, sushi, or vegetable risotto.

This dry, medium-bodied white wine contains no tannins, is of medium acidity, and contains 13.5–15% alcohol by volume.
