2018 Syrah, Durell Vineyard
The 2018 vintage was a slow, consistent vintage that allowed the fruit to ripen slowly and intensely with a harvest date of October 8. Fermented with native yeasts and 40% whole cluster, this is an alluring wine that is all things wild and gamey.
The nose opens with prosciutto, baking spice, red currants, and blood sausage. Bouquet garni and violets lurk below the surface, likely to be more evident in years to come as the wine evolves. On the palate, the wine strikes a lovely balance of richness and texture, creating a velvet-like mouthfeel that coats the palate. Spice, red fruit and savory notes complement this hedonistic wine, carrying the palate into a long, tasty finish – craving another sip.
