For the Ram’s Gate Winery team, wine is one of the greatest expressions of love. It’s our way of saying, with each passing harvest and each pull of a cork, that what we do each day is more than worthwhile: it’s an all-encompassing passion.
Our focus is Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, grown on our own estate or on one of our partnering vineyards throughout Sonoma.
When the fruit arrives on our crushpad, a careful sorting process follows, after which the winemaking process varies based upon varietal. A combination of barrel and tank fermentations, whole cluster and berry fermentations, and a collection of meticulously sourced French oak barrels contribute to the final product.
There’s only one catch: the beautiful sites from which we source fruit are, by nature, finite in the number of cases they can produce, so it’s rare for wines to be available for purchase on our website. The best way for access is to join our membership or our mailing list, through which you’ll be kept apprised of wine releases, special events and winery happenings.
For our winemaking team, crafting Chardonnay is a continuous reminder of the grape’s ability to astonish and delight. With vineyard sources spanning across the Russian River Valley, the Sonoma Coast and Carneros, these wines showcase the great conductor of terroir in all its forms. After the grapes arrive on our crushpad, a rigorous sorting process follows, and upon completing fermentation, the wines spend eleven months in French oak, ranging from one-third to two-thirds new.
From cool Carneros to the northern reaches of the Russian River Valley, the unique sites from which we source Pinot Noir offer an end-to-end spectrum of the grape’s potential. It’s an honor to work with inspiring growers and beautiful fruit, and when the pinecone-shaped clusters arrive each harvest, our team is committed to oversee fermentation and barrel aging with as much care as the fruit receives in the vineyard.
Our home is a special site in itself – and though the Ram’s Gate Estate is ideally suited for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, these vineyards also produce grapes for Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Rhône varieties which beautifully reflect our signature terroir.
Along with our vision to capture individual site signatures across Sonoma and Carneros, we have sought out specific vineyards growing classic California varietals such as Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
