Here at Ram’s Gate, we have a dedicated winemaking team that is committed to making our wines shine every year. Our small but mighty crew lovingly cares for each Ram’s Gate wine, devoting long hours to ensure they receive the attention they deserve. While this spring has brought with it a number of wonderful ratings and reviews, we wanted to take this time to acknowledge that wine isn’t just about grapes and barrels: it is also about the silent heroes in our cellar. Our vineyards and production facility couldn’t function without their passionate efforts behind the scenes. It is because of these hardworking individuals that Ram’s Gate flourishes.

You may have seen Ram’s Gate Cellar Technician Carlos Hernandez around the cellar, setting up pumps, carefully moving wine from tank to barrel or pulling wine samples. His unstoppable devotion to his work and focused attention to detail make him an invaluable asset to the Ram’s Gate winemaking team; his genuine warmth and contagious kindness make him a treasured member of the Ram’s Gate family.

Part of our winemaking team since 2011, Carlos has been working in the wine industry since he was 17 years old.

The first part of his career took place in the world of Napa Cab, and full disclosure: Cabernet Sauvignon wines are still his favorite. “Pinot Noir is a close second, though,” he says. If he had to choose a favorite Ram’s Gate wine? “I love the wines from grower Ulises Valdez,” Carlos says. “I always appreciate that Ulises personally drops off the grapes from his vineyards during harvest. I respect his commitment.”

When asked about what he loves about his job at Ram’s Gate, for Carlos it comes down to attention to detail, and cleaning, cleaning, cleaning! “I love our small team, and that what I do directly impacts how the wines turn out.” Please join us in congratulating Carlos on SEVEN great years at Ram’s Gate — we are so grateful to him for his hard work!

Cheers,
Ram’s Gate Winery
